Chelsea have already started backing Graham Potter in the transfer window, as the Blues boss has set to work to improve the team at his disposal. Part-owner and interim sporting director Todd Boehly spent more than £200m in his first transfer window since he took over at Stamford Bridge, and he’s keen to keep splurging.
CBS Sports have claimed that a club-to-club deal is in place between Chelsea and RB Leipzig for Christopher Nkunku to move to the Premier League for a fee of around £60m. The Frenchman has been the subject of several transfer rumors due to his success and goalscoring record in the Bundesliga, and at one point Chelsea were said to have agreed a deal for the star from Leipzig, but delayed the transfer until the summer of 2023.
However, it looks like the deal will be completed as Chelsea will have mixed feelings about Nkunku’s participation with France in the World Cup. He was named as part of Didier Deschamps’s Qatar squad, but was forced to pull out after picking up an injury in training as the national team prepared for its first match against Australia.
Chelsea will have relished the opportunity for their new signing to play against and amongst the world’s elite and continue the 25-year-old’s development, although there may have been a chance he would impress on the biggest stage and other clubs increased his interest.

The former Brighton player can choose to play Nkunku as a central striker, since he has not decided on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang or Armando Broja. Potter could use him behind the striker alongside Mason Mount, as part of a midfield he often employed at the Seagulls in a 3-4-2-1 form.
Potter’s full-backs have also been deployed unusually high, as Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic have been used in the unorthodox role where the full-backs play closer to the wingers, while Chelsea defended with a back three.
Nkunku could even play in that wing-back role despite not having played there earlier in his career, Potter previously turning Leandro Trossard into a wing-back at Brighton.
