Charles Leclerc faces questions about Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton

The Finn passed the Briton to win the 2018 Russian Grand Prix to help him fight for the title. Earlier in the season, Ferrari sporting director Laurent Mekies stressed that the team would look to favor one driver over the other when the time was right.

However, they were still unable to do this in the final races with Leclerc needing to beat Perez in Abu Dhabi to ensure he finished second in the championship. Mekies said: “There is more talk outside of Ferrari than inside Ferrari [the topic of team orders].

“But more seriously, again, we have always been very clear. Our objective is to have the best result for the team; Ferrari comes first. And then of course there will be a point where we have to focus more on one driver compared to the other if the championship position requires it.”

Charles Leclerc has opened up about claims that Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton are treated differently than Monegasque at Ferrar. Leclerc has shown a frustrated figure during the second half of the season as his championship bid faltered. However, Leclerc was frustrated by the Prancing Horse’s reluctance to introduce team orders early in the season.

Leclerc said The team: “It is something that I personally cannot control, so I prefer to concentrate on what I can handle and on my driving. These are things that are dealt with internally if I feel the need to: my job is to do my best and then the team has to push in my direction. That’s my answer.”

The Ferrari man urged his team to “do something” at the British Grand Prix as he battled behind Carlos Sainz, but the team refused to intervene. Leclerc was eventually back in P4 as Sainz won and Ferrari were unable to capitalize on a day when Verstappen only scored a handful of points.

In Brazil, Leclerc said he was left “frustrated” after the team failed to intervene on the final lap.
