Chaka Khan declares she’s ‘quitting down’ after ‘b****es’ rank her below Adele
The music industry came to a standstill on January 1, 2023, when Rolling Stone ranked the world’s 200 greatest singers of all time. On that list was Chaka Khan, who came in with a respectable 29. However, he wasn’t happy when he found out about his place live from him on a podcast.
Chaka appeared in The originals podcast, where the theme of his spot arose. She admitted that she had never heard of the list before that day. At 29, she’s sat below Mary J Blige, Beyonce, and Aretha Franklin, to name just a few. But when she heard that she was below Adele (who was ranked 22nd), Chaka raged: “Okay, I’m quitting.”
Things got even worse for her when she realized that Mariah Carey was even ahead of her at number five on the list.
She raged: “That must be payola or something!”
Queen Bey reached number eight on the chart, placing her among some of the most successful singers of all time.
Chaka said: “I’m not going to comment on that. I have nothing to say about Beyoncé. She’s a great singer, okay. She really has a chance to be a great singer. She’s got what it takes. She’s got the chops, she does. , OK?”
This is not the first time that Chaka has had a very public feud with other singers. Most recently, in 2020, he lashed out at Ariana Grande.
Ariana and Chaka were supposed to work together in 2019 on a remix of one of the latter’s songs, Ain’t Nobody. The new version of the track was to be recorded for the Charlie’s Angels soundtrack. But it seems that things did not go well.
When Chaka was asked about Ariana, she replied, “F**k her.”
After a moment, she added, “It’s okay. It’s okay alone. She doesn’t need to…besides, I don’t want to sing with another woman. I have nothing to say, it’s okay, with a woman.”
She finished by saying, “You’re on your own. We’re not going to talk about no man. We’re not going to do any of that. It’s not happening. I’m not going to do any heifer-less song.”
