Everyone has a favorite Christmas movie. Whether it’s the heartbreaking How Wonderful It Is to Live, the classic Home Alone, or the hilarious (and really good?) Knight Before Christmas, there are countless festive feature films to enjoy this holiday season. However, Britain seems to have chosen its favorite Christmas cookie over the last month, as one film rose above the rest.
The Official Charts Company has now revealed that Elf has become Britain’s favorite Christmas movie of 2022. The film, which was originally released in 2003, stars Will Ferrell as Buddy the Elf, a human male raised by elves in Search for your biological father (James Caan).
This week, which ends on Friday, December 23, marks the fifth week that Elf has been at the top of the Official Charts Company movie list. The timeless film has survived nearly 20 years at the top of its game and has influenced Christmas movies ever since.
However, there is some bad news about the future of the film.
Elf 2 has been a fan’s dream for years, but, unfortunately, it seems like the chances of it happening are completely dead.
Caan discussed the possibility of an Elf sequel, but noted that two of the film’s actors had refused to work together again.
Also, Ferrell is completely against diving back into the “laughable” costume of Buddy the Elf. He said, “Absolutely not. I just think it would look a bit pathetic if he tried to squeeze my elf tights: Buddy the middle-aged elf.”
Several studies have also backed up this new information, with a new survey revealing that Elf will always be on the minds of Brits throughout the festive period.
A new study by ask the players has ranked the average monthly Christmas movie searches on Google in the UK in recent weeks.
Elf is a strong second in the UK, with over 125,000 searches; however, worldwide it takes home 103,0000 obscene searches.
During Elf’s time at the top of Britain’s favorite films, the blockbuster film avoided some massive box office hits, including Top Gun: Maverick, which stayed at number two on the top ten list for many weeks.
Elf is in good company, as the third place on the list is occupied by The Grinch; Benedict Cumberbatch’s animated film that retells the classic Dr. Seuss story.
Watch Elf on NOW.
