Yesterday Brian May and Roger Taylor shared a tantalizing video of iconic London landmarks including Big Ben at 10am The big tease was that they had some big Queen news to share at the time today and now it’s out.
Eight years after We Will Rock You ended its 12-year run at London’s Dominion Theatre, the Queen musical is returning to the West End. Ben Elton’s hit show will run for a strictly limited 12-week period (June 2 – August 27, 2023) at the London Coliseum next summer. It will be on the same stage where Freddie Mercury performed his Royal Ballet gala in 1979.
A statement from the band read: “With 24 of Queen’s greatest hits and a hilarious script from Ben Elton, who returns to the director’s chair for this London homecoming, ‘We Will Rock You’ rivals scale and the spectacle of the band’s legendary live performances. Queen superstars Brian May and Roger Taylor are delighted that the show will soon wow fans in London once again.”
Brian May said: “I’m delighted that we finally have this chance to put We Will Rock You back on stage in London, where it was born. The show’s original message of the struggle to reestablish individuality in a dystopian corporate world is even more relevant now than when we started. It will be a completely new production that will burst onto the prestigious stage of the London Coliseum, but the history, the humor and, of course, the music of Queen will impact you more than ever. WE WILL GET YOU OUT – again!!”
Roger Taylor shared: “Bigger, better, faster, more fun! Here we go again… yaaaaaaah!” And Ben Elton added: “I hope someone has arranged this with English Heritage because the fabulous London Coliseum is a Grade II listed theater and We Will Rock You is going to blow the roof off.”

Queen added: We Will Rock You tells the story of a globalized future without musical instruments. A handful of rock rebels, the Bohemians, fight against the all-powerful company Globalsoft and its boss, the Killer Queen; they fight for freedom, individuality and the revival of the rock age. Scaramouche and Galileo, two young outsiders, cannot accept the grim conformist reality. They join the bohemians and embark on the quest to find the limitless power of freedom, love and rock!
