Bohemian Rhapsody surpasses Avengers Endgame in an incredible achievement

The Queen biopic was in the works for many years, with the likes of Sacha Baron Cohen and Ben Whishaw attached to play Freddie Mercury at different times. Eventually, Brian May and Roger Taylor found Rami Malek, who won the Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of the late singer. When Bohemian Rhapsody hit theaters in late 2018, the movie received lukewarm reviews from critics, but it grossed over $900 million worldwide.
After garnering more Academy Awards than any other film in 2019, Bohemian Rhapsody’s success continued with its home release.
According to the Official Film Chart, the Freddie Mercury film is the best-selling film in the UK for the last four years of the list’s existence. Since then, Bohemian Rhapsody has sold 1.92 million copies, made up of 1.25 million physical copies (between DVD, Blu-ray and 4K UHD) and 662,000 digital downloads.
Queen’s film surpassed recent music hits like The Greatest Showman and the biggest movie of all time, Avengers Endgame. Here are the 10 biggest films in the four-year history of the Official Film Chart:
Brian said, “It’s going to take a lot of careful thought and a lot of magical inspiration, which is what happened [with Bohemian Rhapsody]. You know, it took us 12 years to put that movie together. So maybe it’s going to take the same time for this. At the moment we are just looking at ideas, that’s all. It’s exciting, I have to say. The idea of going through all that again is very appealing; working with that wonderful team again. The four guys that played us and the crew that produced it and directed it and everything. It was all amazing.”
