Avatar 3 will change everything about the Na’vi after Avatar 2

James Cameron’s epic space opera Avatar: The Way of Water recently passed the billion dollar mark at the box office, and now he has set his sights on the future of the franchise. Cameron has already announced plans to release Avatar 3, as well as a fourth and fifth installment in the series, but they will all be drastically different from his predecessors. Cameron has now revealed that Avatar 3 will introduce some conflict within the Na’vi tribes.

Cameron recently appeared on France’s 20 Minutes, where he was asked about the next step in the story. He announced that the threequel will focus on “different cultures than the ones I’ve already shown”.

While Avatar featured the Na’vi who inhabited the endless forests of the planet Pandora, Avatar: The Way of Water showed the Na’vi who lived under the sea. In the future, a new type of Na’vi will be introduced illustrating fire on the planet.

Cameron said, “Fire will be represented by the Ash People. I want to show the Na’vi from another angle because I’ve only shown their good sides so far.”

Cameron revealed that, in Avatar 3, the way the Na’vi look will change drastically. This time, with the Ash People, they’ll be a more antagonistic force of nature.

“In the early movies, there are very negative human examples and very positive Na’vi examples,” he mused. “In Avatar 3, we’ll do the opposite.”

The 68-year-old director’s comments hint that Jake Sully could take on the Na’vi for the first time in the series.

What’s more, he pointed out that new planets will be seen for the first time in the series. This allows for endless new examples of aliens and precious metals joining the fray during the fight for freedom.

Cameron said, “We’ll also be exploring new worlds, as we continue the story of the main characters. I can say that the last few parts will be the best. The other parts were an introduction, a way of setting the table before serving food.”

Variety recently reported that production on Avatar 3 had wrapped, and the movie is currently scheduled to hit theaters in December 2024.

Avatar 5 has also had a few details revealed in recent days. Producer Jon Landau spoke candidly about how the series’ story will progress after it leaves Pandora.

Landau said, “Well, it’s funny. I wasn’t going to talk about it, but now I heard Jim talked about it a little bit.”

“In [Avatar 5] there is a section of the story where we go to Earth. And we are going to that to open the eyes of the people, to open the eyes of Neytiri, to what exists on Earth”.

This will be the first time fans of the franchise have seen Earth in the timeline, which means something drastic is likely to happen during this movie.

Avatar: The Way of Water is already in theaters.
