Arsenal’s Pablo Mari breaks silence after stabbing

Arsenal star Pablo Mari has said he had ‘luck’ on his side after he avoided life-threatening injuries after being stabbed in Milan yesterday. The plant will require an operation after the attack where at least four other people were injured and a 30-year-old man is believed to have died.
Mari, who is currently on loan at Serie A side AC Monza, was out shopping with his wife and son when the attack occurred. He was stabbed in the back and taken to the hospital where his injuries were deemed not life-threatening.
He will have surgery later today to correct a muscle injury in his back. It is not yet known how long the Spaniard will be out of action.
Since then, he has spoken with his manager at Monza, Raffaele Palladino, and the club’s chief executive, Adriano Galliani, according to the Italian publication. La Gazzetta Dello Sport.
He said: “Today I was lucky because I saw a person die in front of me.
“I was with the stroller with my son in it and I felt excruciating pain in my back. Then that man stabbed another man in the throat.”
News of the incident broke during Arsenal’s 2-0 loss to PSV in the Europa League last night and the club was quick to update fans on Mari’s well-being.
A statement posted on the club’s website said: “We are all shocked to hear the terrible news about the stabbing in Italy, which has landed a number of people in hospital, including our loan-out centre-back Pablo Mari.
“We have been in contact with Pablo’s agent, who has told us that he is in hospital and not seriously injured. Our thoughts are with Pablo and the other victims of this terrible incident.”
Monza CEO Galliani later detailed how lucky Mari had been, suggesting her height prevented the attacker from damaging any of her vital organs.
“Pablo Mari had a fairly deep wound on his back, which fortunately did not touch vital organs such as the lungs or others,” he explained. “He probably saved himself from the height of him.
“From the psychological point of view, it seems to me that there are no problems even if I am not a doctor.
“This is shocking news. I send a message of closeness and affection to his family.”
