Arsenal ready for Tielemans heartbreak as Leicester ‘confident’ in deal

Arsenal are about to suffer a transfer setback with Premier League rivals Leicester reportedly ‘quietly certain’ to avoid Youri Tielemans for nothing in 2023. The Belgian international’s contract expires at the end of the season and would therefore be freely available, but The Foxes are fighting tooth and nail to keep their star midfielder at the club.

Tielemans has been a key man for Leicester since joining the club from Monaco in 2019. He has made 175 appearances in his three-year spell at East Midlands scoring 27 goals, most notably the winner in the 2021 FA Cup Final for win the trophy. for the Foxes for the first time.

The 25-year-old was widely expected to leave the King Power Stadium in 2023 with little progress in negotiations for a new deal. The player was believed to be looking for a new challenge, possibly in a team competing in the Champions League with Arsenal the team most linked with a move.

However the daily mail have reported that Leicester are ‘quietly confident’ of avoiding losing Tielemans for free next summer. A new deal is still on the table and the club is in close contact with the player’s agent. If a new contract is not agreed upon, the Foxes will look to sell him in January to receive something for his services.

The news will come as something of a blow to Arsenal as Mikel Arteta is unwilling to pay the Midland team’s £25m asking price for the manager. The Gunners are now faced with either losing Tielemans elsewhere or he can choose to stay where he is.

Big salaries would probably be needed to keep the Belgian at Leicester and the player is also likely to insist that a respectable release clause be inserted into the deal. Brendan Rodgers would also have other chips to play with, most notably the captain’s armband. The midfielder has led the team on multiple occasions this season with regular captain Jonny Evans injured and could be tempted with a longer stay if he is awarded the honor permanently.

Tielemans, like the entire Leicester squad, started the season out of shape but has improved markedly in recent weeks and the club is now 13th in the Premier League. The midfielder has been an integral part of top form, scoring contenders for goal of the season in wins over Wolves and Everton.

It remains to be seen what steps Tielemans will take next in his career with his current focus on representing Belgium at the World Cup. However, Arsenal fans will be concerned by the latest developments with the player looking like the perfect choice to upgrade his midfield.
