Alec Baldwin’s Rust is set to return to filming after fatal shooting on set

A settlement has been reached in a lawsuit brought by the husband of Halyna Hutchins and their 9-year-old son…and the outcome seems surprisingly positive for those involved. In a statement (via Associated Press), Hutchins’ widower said, “Our case will be dismissed. Filming on Rust, which I will now executive produce, will resume with all original lead actors on board, in January 2023.”

Alec Baldwin also shared the news, posting a screenshot of an article announcing the deal to his Instagram. “Throughout this difficult process, everyone has held a specific desire to do what’s best for Halyna’s son,” the actor wrote in the caption of his photo. “We thank everyone who contributed to the resolution of this tragic and painful situation.”

His post received mixed reactions, with one incredulous. Username writing, “You really can’t continue making this movie, can you?” Still, the wishes seem to be in line with those of the Hutchins family, who hope the completed film can further the legacy of the talented cinematographers. Despite Variety reports that part of the original crew “[wants] nothing to do with it,” another expressed the hope that it “brings a sense of closure.”
